1. Battle of Largs (1263)

One of Largs’ most famous historical events, the Battle of Largs, took place in 1263 between the Scots and Norse. It marked a key moment in the struggle for control over the Western Isles, ultimately leading to the end of Norwegian influence in Scotland.

Largs proudly celebrates its Viking past. The town features a striking Viking monument and hosts the Largs Viking Festival every September, a popular event that includes battle reenactments, markets, and a Viking village.

3. Home of Nardini’s

Largs is home to the famous Nardini’s ice cream parlour, a local institution since 1935. It’s an iconic art deco building on the seafront and one of Scotland’s most beloved places for traditional Italian gelato.

4. Scientific Significance

Nearby Skelmorlie Mains was the site of early 20th century experiments with radar, conducted by engineer Robert Watson-Watt, considered a pioneer of radar technology.
